This cruise itinerary takes a scenic tour of the many countries surrounding the Baltic Sea. From the hip café and bar culture of Gothernburg to the ornate and whimsical setting of St Petersburg – pack your bags and get ready to visit some action-packed cities and beautiful, natural scenery.

Day 1 – Newcastle, England

Departs: 16:00

Begin your journey in buzzing Newcastle, home to great nightlife and cultural days. Visit one of the many museums or indulge in a spot of lunch at one of the many cafes and restaurants before boarding Marella Explorer. If you're flying into Newcastle from another regional airport, Newcastle International lies 15 miles to the north of Port of Tyne, and taxi journeys take around 30 minutes – so you'll have plenty of time to enjoy Newcastle before boarding.

Day 2 – At sea

Take full advantage of all the facilities on board Marella Explorer 2 during your day at sea. She has everything you need to be entertained including a casino, outdoor pool, mini-golf and Champney's spa and gym. There's also 9 restaurants and 10 bars at your disposal.

Day 3 – Oslo, Norway

Time in port: 08:00 – 17:00

Take a tour of Norway’s capital city where a lush green landscape of lakes and forests meet modern architecture and a hip art scene. There's lots of foodies here too with many fine dining restaurants serving fresh, local dishes. If you're into modern art, visit the Astrup Fearnley Museum which hosts a collection of American art as well as work by local newbies to the scene.

Day 4 – Gothenburg, Sweden

07:00 – 14:00

This Swedish city is also known as 'Little London' thanks to its cosmopolitan vibe. It has a buzzing nightlife, as well as lots of museums and galleries to explore. The best way to discover the city is on water. Take a kayaking tour and paddle past sights such as the ship-like opera house or hop on a Paddan sightseeing boat to see the best of the city. Also worth checking out is the Gothenburg Museum of Art where you can admire work by well known artists like Rembrandt, Rubens and Van Gogh.

Day 5 – At sea

Your day at sea onboard Marella Explorer 2 will be fun-filled to say the least. By day, there's shops, swimming pools, mini-golf and sports activities. For night-time entertainment, head to the Broadway Show Lounge. You can also head to Squid and Anchor - the place home to live bands and quiz nights!

Day 6 – Tallinn, Estonia

Time in port: 11:00 – 17:00

Tallinn is one of the world's best preserved Medieval towns. Just across the water from Helsinki is this capital city of Estonia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Meander around this walled city which is an architectural wonder of fairytale turrets, spires and winding streets. Begin your visit with a trip to Toompea. Here you’ll find the beautiful Alexander Nevsky Russian Orthodox Cathedral and Toompea Castle where Estonia’s parliament sits. If you fancy a change from sightseeing, park up in one of the city’s many open-air cafés.

Day 7-8 – St Petersburg, Russia

Arrive in port: 07:00 (Day 7)

Depart from port: 18:00 (Day 8)

Spend two days on your Baltic Discovery itinerary touring this ornate Russian city filled with lavishly designed bridges, canals and palaces. Visit the gilded cupola of St Isaac's Cathedral and the Palace Square with its beautiful Baroque Winter Palace. Art lovers will also appreciate the Hermitage Museum, home to a whopping three million pieces of art from the likes of Leonardo Da Vinci, Titian, El Greco and Rembrandt. As night falls, enjoy a ballet performance at the Conservatoire Theatre which belongs to the oldest music school in Russia.

Day 9 – Helsinki, Finland

Time in port: 08:00 – 17:00

Helsinki is bound to keep you occupied on the next stage of your journey. Take a tour of this magical city's historical centre with amazing architecture at every turn in places like the Senate Square, the City Hall, the Presidential Palace and Opera House. Also visit the Ateneum, the National Gallery of Finland, home to Finnish art from the 1700's.

Day 10 – Stockholm, Sweden

Time in port: 10:00 – 18:30

Explore the fascinating city of Stockholm which is spread out across 14 islands. This cosmopolitan gem is chock-full of interesting architecture, museums, galleries, bars and restaurants. Hop on a canal boat and navigate around the 50 bridges criss-crossing their way around the city. History and art buffs will feel right at home here as there's 70 museums in total, including the National Museum of Art and the Vasa Museum.

Day 11 – At sea

A day at sea gives you plenty of time to relax onboard Marella Explorer 2.  Treat yourself to a massage in the Champneys Spa and make your way through various yummy Bellini's at Flutes. There's plenty of places to tempt the tastebuds, too. There's everything from surf and turf specialities to grab ‘n’ go lunches to around-the-world buffets.

Day 12 – Warnemünde, Germany

Time in port: 07:00 – 19:00

This part of Germany was blessed with gorgeous beaches. Take a walk on the sand or climb to the top of the lighthouse to enjoy the views over the Baltic Sea. History lovers will enjoy hopping aboard the narrow-gauge steam train, Molli for a journey back in time. If hunger strikes, there's plenty of food stalls selling Bratwurst, and cafés serving traditional German dishes and local beers.

Day 13 – Copenhagen, Denmark

Time in port: 10:00 – 18:00 

Denmark is one of Scandinavia's most modern cities but has a history that dates back to the 10th-century. Old shares a space with new where contemporary shops meet Renaissance palaces and age-old waterways. Visit the Copenhagen Opera House, one of the most modern opera houses in the world. It's also worth exploring Christiansborg Palace, the seat of Danish parliament.

Day 14 – At sea

As you near the end of your Baltic Discovery cruise, be sure to make the most of the facilities onboard Marella Explorer 2. With 9 restaurants and 10 bars to choose from, a speciality champagne bar with push to order buttons and Scoops - your onboard ice cream parlour, you'll be spoilt for choice!

Day 15 – Newcastle, England
