Ports visited*

* The order of the itinerary may differ depending on your chosen departure date and airport.
Day 1-3 – Aqaba (for Petra), Jordan

Departs: 19:00 (Day 3)

You’ll arrive at Aqaba airport and TUI will transfer you (free of charge) to the port, around 19 kilometres away. Take a rest if you’re tired – you have another two days to explore the area.

Most people visit Aqaba to see the region’s beaches or experience the ancient city of Petra, hewn into rose-tinted sandstone cliffs. It’s best to take shore excursions to these places, rather than travel independently.

Petra is an 80-minute coach ride away, but it’s the archaeological highlight of the Ancient shores 1 itinerary. If you don’t want to travel far, spend the day instead at the luxurious Movenpick Hotel, where you can sunbathe on the private beach.

Day 4-5 – Suez Canal (Transit), Egypt

Time in port: 22:30 (Day 4) – 23:59 (Day 5)

Over the next couple of days, you’ll travel down the famous Suez Canal. It slices through Egypt and was built so ships could sail quickly from Europe to Asia.

You’ll sail through the desert, passing Egyptian cities that line the banks. Here, you’ll find locals in rowing boats selling their wares, such as unique, homemade carvings. While you're here, look out for the towering AK47 Bayonet monument.

Day 6 – Ashdod (for Jerusalem and Bethlehem), Israel

Time in port: 06:00 – 19:00

The port of Ashdod is the gateway to the cities of Jerusalem and Bethlehem, with their rich biblical history and ancient architecture. These must-visit cities are between 60 and 90 minutes’ drive away respectively. While they can be reached by taxi from the terminal, it’s more convenient to take a shore excursion.

In Jerusalem, you’ll get a chance to visit the Garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus prayed after the Last Supper. You’ll walk through the old city, retracing Jesus’ steps as he carried the cross to Calvary. In Bethlehem, you’ll see the Church of the Nativity, built over the stable where Mary gave birth to Jesus.

For something different, take a bike tour through Ashdod, passing the historic Jewish Rabbi Quarter and ending up on laid-back Oranim Beach, where you can grab some much-needed refreshments.

Day 7 – At Sea

Relaxing on board Marella Discovery, you will be wowed by her state-of-the-art amenities. While you're here, you can lounge by the indoor or outdoor pool or get a super-relaxing treatment at Ocean’s Spa.

If you’re feeling active, go for a run on the jogging track or break a sweat on the outdoor climbing wall. There’s also a video arcade, a casino and the Broadway Show Lounge, where you can watch entertainment shows.

There are seven restaurants to choose from, including The Glass House where you can opt to cook your own meat on a sizzling hot stone. Finish the day with a cocktail at the swanky Bar Eleven, or catch an outdoor film screening at ‘Movies by Moonlight.’

Day 8 – Argostoli, Kefalonia

Time in port: 12:00 – 20:00

The evocative island of Kefalonia was the backdrop for the Captain Corelli’s Mandolin film. The Ancient Shores 1 cruise offers you the chance to experience it for yourself.

The port is just a few hundred metres from Argostoli, so you can easily explore independently. Saunter down Plateia Valianou, renowned for its local restaurants, and on to the bustling main shopping street, Lithostroto. Street musicians will serenade you as you walk.

Be sure to take a shore excursion to explore the island’s scenic beauty. Visit the idyllic Myrtos Beach, where scenes from Captain Corelli’s Mandolin were filmed. Another popular trip is to the Drogarati Cave and the unmissable subterranean Melissani Lake, renowned for its vibrant blue waters.

Day 9 – Corfu Town, Corfu

Arrives: 07:00

The Ancient Shores 1 tour finishes on the pretty island of Corfu. You’ll leave with plenty of memories, feeling relaxed after the trip. We're certain you’ll want to book another cruise soon.
