From the lunar-like landscapes of Tenerife to the vibrant botanical gardens of Funchal, this exciting Marella cruise offers an inviting balance of sightseeing and lazy beach days. Day 1 - Santa Cruz De Tenerife, Tenerife

Departs: 23:00

Your cruise departs late in the evening so, time allowing, you can explore the sights and sounds of Santa Cruz. The cruise terminal is only a 10- to 20-minute drive from the airport and regular shuttle buses run from to and from the cruise port to the Plaza de Espana with its impressive fountain and street-side cafes to the cruise port.

Top of the attractions list is Teide National Park, the island's biggest drawer. For a fun day out, consider Loro Parque, an award-winning attraction with a variety of animal and birdlife, including a colourful macaw show.

The bustling old town provides a relaxing venue in which to window-shop, soak up the sights and enjoy a spot of lunch. If you want to try authentic cuisine, look out for dishes such as picadhinho de carne, beef served in a rich garlic-and-pepper sauce.

Day 2 – Las Palmas, Gran Canaria

Time in port: 08:00-22:00

Offering year-round sunshine, a lively town centre and wide stretches of golden sand, Las Palmas in Gran Canaria gives you the chance to relax and unwind. Those in search of retail therapy will find plenty of opportunity to flex the plastic in the numerous boutiques in the centre, while those in search of culture can pop into Casa de Colón.

Also known as Columbus House, this charming building houses a collection of exhibits showing the travels of Christopher Columbus and his fleet.

Day 3 – Santa Cruz de La Palma, La Palma

Time in port: 08:00-16:00

Day three on A New Year’s Dream will see you dock in the port of Santa Cruz de La Palma on La Palma. Its rugged landscapes provide a scenic backdrop for your time in port, with the old town offering a charming maze of cobbled streets, gift shops and cafes.

A trip to little hillside village Breña Alta proves popular, with a cigar museum and tobacco plantations to discover; El Paso, with its mountain views and silk museum, is also worthy of your time. Top of the island’s attractions however is Caldera de Taburiente National Park. This fascinating park, situated in what was once a volcanic crater, is home to a large variety of birdlife, statuesque pine trees and colourful flora.

Day 4-5 – Funchal, Madeira

Arrive in port: 08:00 (Day 4)

Depart from port: 16:00 (Day 5)

You’ll get to welcome in the New Year in style with two days in Madeira, so as well as seeing the sights of this pretty island. When it comes to scenery, Madeira’s bold blooms and lush scenery offer a striking contrast from the volcanic landscapes of the Canary Islands. You’ll dock in Funchal, the vibrant capital packed with restaurants, traditional flower stalls and pretty squares.

The Botanical Gardens are a must and also offer impressive sea views. As the year draws to an end Madeira offers a programme of cultural events and the skies of Funchal are dramatically lit up with an impressive fireworks display which will help you see in 2019 with a bang.

Day 6 – Arrecife, Lanzarote

Time in port: 10:00–18:00

New Year cruises, like all cruises, offer plenty of variety and Lanzarote is no exception. Arrecife provides cultural pursuits galore, such as the Castillo de San Gabriel for history buffs. Aside from its historic importance, the fortress also provides stunning views across the Atlantic. The Castillo de San Jose, a fabulous modern art museum, is also worth a look.

You could also bask on sandy beaches; Puerto del Carmen is just a 20-minute drive from port. Sightsee around its picturesque resorts or even go wine tasting! Vineyards are there to be explored in nearby Valley of La Geria. This is Lanzarote’s main wine-growing region and offers an interesting detour for wine enthusiasts – and you can buy a few bottles to take home with you, too.

You’ve also got Timanfaya National Park, another popular excursion just a half-hour drive from port. This striking volcanic landscape offers up a movie set worthy setting of steaming geysers, scorched valleys and epic craters.

Day 7 – Puerto Del Rosario, Fuerteventura

Time in port: 08:00 – 17:00

Day 7 will see you arrive in the Fuerteventura, the second-largest in the Canary Islands. It's also the closest to Africa, ensuring sun-drenched days ideal for sunbathing and sightseeing. Puerto Del Rosaria itself has a number of attractions for exploration, including the home of Casa de la Cultura, once the home of poet Miguel de Unamuno. It's now a popular museum which hosts exhibitions, plays and concerts.

For swimming and water sports, the long stretch of sand in Corralejo provides the ideal playground on which to relax, and it’s just a half-hour drive from the port. The beach is part of the Parque Natural de Corralejo which also incorporates its famous sweeping sand dunes.

Adrenalin seekers may wish to opt for a 4x4 adventure which gives an off-road glimpse of the island's rugged scenery, hidden villages and mountainous interior. It’s a great to make the most of your day in port.
