Ports visited*

* The order of the itinerary may differ depending on your chosen departure date and airport.
Day 1 - Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Tenerife

Departs 23:00

If your flight gets in early, take advantage of your cruise's late departure time to explore Santa Cruz. It takes 45 minutes to get there from Tenerife South airport, and the transfer is included in the price of your Marella cruise.

If culture is your thing, visit the Auditorio de Tenerife. Compared to the Sydney Opera House due to its contemporary design, it's home to the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra.

For a taste of Christmas in Tenerife, go to the Mercado Municipal Nuestra Señora de Africa. Never mind the mince pies, you can pick up some traditional Christmas delicacies, like turrón (nougat) or polvorones (almond cakes).

Day 2 - Las Palmas, Gran Canaria

Time in port: 08:00-23:00

Jagged mountains stand guard over colourful villages and outstanding beaches on this Canarian island. The kids will love rolling down the sand dunes of Maspalomas Beach, while you sit in a beach bar enjoying a festive drink of Ron Miel, the national drink of Gran Canaria.

The Vegueta district is an hour from the port by taxi. With its cobbled streets and traditional Canarian housing, it’s home to the neoclassical Santa Ana Cathedral.

Get into the Christmas spirit and take a trip to the Town Hall to see a traditional Nativity scene. Then head off to the Museum of the Canary Islands to immerse yourself in history.

Day 3 - Santa Cruz de La Palma, La Palma

Time in port: 09:00-18:00

Forests, volcanos and black-sand beaches make La Palma a unique nature reserve. Book a shore excursion to La Caldera de Taburiente National Park and see the biggest volcanic crater in the world.

If you’re a water baby, grab your swimming gear and head to Puerto Naos, La Palma’s impressive black-sand beach. You'll think Christmas has come early as you snorkel around the reefs, learn to dive or get a bird’s-eye view as you parasail overhead.

Day 4 - Funchal, Madeira

Time in port: 10:00-23:00

Day 4 of your Canary Island cruise will find you in the capital of Madeira, Funchal. No trip would be complete without tasting some of its famous fortified wine, so book onto a Botanical Beauty and Cable Car trip and do it in style.

Or you can head for the Church of Nossa Senhora do Monte and do some Christmas tobogganing. Used for transport in Madeira in days gone by, the toboggans are now a tourist attraction. There might not be any snow, but you can hurtle yourself down the streets of Monte at 25mph!

Day 5 - At Sea

Day five of your Canarian Christmas itinerary is Christmas day. It's time to enjoy the spirit of Christmas without lifting a finger. The decorations are already up so why not spend the day by the pool or pamper yourself in the Ocean’s Spa and Beauty Salon? Then pop on your festive jumper for Christmas dinner in one of the ship's six restaurants.

As the sun goes down, make your way to the Broadway Show Lounge for a Christmas show. Or chance your luck in the casino and win some money to pay for those Christmas presents.

Day 6 - Puerto del Rosario, Fuerteventura

Time in port: 08:00-23:00

It's business as usual in Fuerteventura on Boxing Day, and a stop in the capital, Puerto del Rosario, gives you the chance to see some unforgettable street art. It’s like visiting a giant outdoor art gallery, with more than 50 sculptures scattered around the town.

You'll also see some of the 400 murals which have appeared in the city since 2011. The vibrant colours add to the beauty of this unique place.

Day 7 - Arrecife, Lanzarote

Time in port: 09:00-18:00

Arrecife is the gateway to another volcanic haven, Lanzarote. A half-hour drive from the port is Timanfaya National Park where you can ride on camels in desert-like conditions, peer over the edge of a crater and marvel at the soaring peaks surrounding you.

Or you can take yourself off for a swim at Playa del Reducto, the idyllic main beach where the palm trees will be laced with mini Christmas present decorations, and the golden sands filled with people enjoying their post-Christmas break.

Day 8 - Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Tenerife

Arrives 06:00

The final day of your Canarian Christmas cruise will find you back where your memories began just a week ago. Depending on your flight time, you’ll be able to spend some time exploring a vintage Christmas market and picking up some extra presents for the folks back home.
