Viking Aegir

About Viking Aegir

Whether you want to cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest, from Budapest to Bucharest or to trace the curves of the Danube, Viking Aegir is a river cruise ship with plenty to offer.

As with other longboat river cruise ships bearing the Viking River Cruises’ name, there are several accommodation options open to you during your trip. The most affordable of these are the suites and staterooms, all of which include large screen televisions and French doors leading to private terraces as standard.

For those travellers looking for the true lap of luxury, the exclusive Explorer Staterooms include welcome champagne and daily fruit baskets delivered to a cosy corner of the cruise ship — the likes of which is the size of most hotel rooms. You needn’t fret that the more affordable rooms will skimp on the style and luxury though, with both the Veranda Stateroom and Veranda Suite options showcasing the effortless Scandinavian style that Viking cruises embody so well.

With an upper deck furnished with loungers, a herb garden and a running track, Viking Aegir promises to keep you connected to the great outdoors during your time onboard.

Making the most of those views is a breeze, thanks to the Observation Lounge replete with bar, or the hallmark of distinction on Viking River Cruises — the Aquavit Terrace. With a grill, indoor and outdoor areas and a laid-back ambience in abundance, the Aquavit Terrace offers a panoramic showcase of Europe’s finest cities, richest forests and most fantastic countryside, letting you recline as it all glides by.

See What's Inside

It’s been said that the best way to know a culture is through its food and wine. Both engage your senses and provide a window into the traditions and essence of a land. Viking's trained chefs are passionate about food and committed to providing a complete culinary experience. The ships’ dining areas are hospitable and inviting; the service is friendly, attentive and personalised. Menu selections include regional dishes and contemporary cuisine to offer a variety of flavours designed to suit any palate. You have choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Not just in food selection, but also in where and how you enjoy them. Greet the morning with a croissant and cappuccino on deck, or begin your day with a sumptuous buffet breakfast. Have a casual lunch or dinner al fresco, or join friends in the restaurant. Open seating allows you to mingle with the same guests every evening or meet someone new each day.

The Restaurant

Gaze at breathtaking scenery through the Restaurant’s panoramic windows as you dine on regional specialties and contemporary cuisine. The atmosphere is casual yet elegant, with high-quality table linens, china, cutlery and glassware at every meal.

Aquavit Terrace

Revolutionary in concept and design, this spacious outdoor seating area at the bow of the ship is perfect for having a casual meal al fresco, meeting friends for drinks or reading a book, all while enjoying breathtaking views and basking in the fresh air.

  • Experience: Snacks
  • Cuisine: Casual

As with your stateroom, the public areas are designed to make the most of the splendid views. Whether from the sun deck, the Lounge or the restaurant, a river cruise provides uninterrupted sightseeing, from the time the morning mist rises from the water to when the setting sun announces the end to another remarkable day.

The Bar

Located in the Lounge, the bar is lively and inviting - a gathering place for guests to view the scenery, have a drink and catch up on the day with friends.

Library

Located in the heart of the Upper deck adjacent to the Aquavit Terrace, the library has comfortable seating and excellent reading light. Their ships’ libraries carry approximately 80 books, in various languages but mostly English, and several games such as chess, backgammon and playing cards. Pick up a magazine or board game and enjoy it in the lounge just steps away.

Onboard Boutique

Forget to bring something? Looking for a magazine or some gift items? The onboard boutique on the main deck has everything you need to make your voyage comfortable and convenient.

The Lounge

The lounge has a baby grand piano, where a pianist plays classical and modern melodies during cocktail hour and sometimes at lunch. The music drifts to and through the Aquavit Terrace -a nice accompaniment on warm, sunny days.

The cruise director hosts a variety of informal evening entertainment in the lounge; from pub trivia nights to the cruise slideshow cum sales pitch, it's all done in a spirit of fun and inclusivity. The lounge is also equipped with large pull-down movie screens and surround-sound for movie nights, and regional performers occasionally come onboard to provide additional entertainment.

Let the staff treat you to personalised service, fine wines and delicious, regional cuisine. Engage in immersive cultural activities. Take advantage of the wide array of amenities, from the onboard Concierge to ship-wide Wi-Fi and 24-hour beverage bar.

Sun Deck

Enjoy the sunshine up on the Sun deck with its 360-degree views and shaded sitting area. Guests are also provided with a small putting green and a walking track, for those looking to keep fit.

Hands-on demonstrations, cooking classes, traditional dance performances, and local tastings. These in-depth experiences are included as an essential part of discovering more about the places through which you cruise, and each activity is planned specifically to illuminate each itinerary.

Sometimes you want to dig a little deeper. We offer a series of onboard multimedia talks to shed light on the history and culture of the places you visit. Topics may include the Dutch Masters or French impressionists, castles along the Rhine Valley, the formation of the European Union, the life and works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the wine and cuisine of southern France, and key words and phrases in the local language wherever you are traveling. These presentations provide a context for your own observations, enhancing your travel experience.

Daily Shore Excursions

Most passengers participate in the daily shore excursions included in the cruise fares, and a fair number also opt for the fee-added alternative trips provided by the line. Shore excursions are typically of the basic bus or walking tour variety, but paid-for excursions also include events like wine-tastings and off-ship dinner outings. Prices for these range between 30 and 60 Euros per person. QuietVox headsets with earphones (found in each cabin) are provided for every tour so that everyone can hear what local guides are saying.
