About Marella Discovery

Although Marella Discovery is one of the biggest in the fleet, she’s mid-size in comparison to other ships and remains a comfortable size to get around. You’ll also enjoy the same excellent, friendly service that this cruise line has become renowned for over the years.

On deck nine is Islands restaurant, which serves buffets, carveries and show cooking – plus there’s a snack shack next door for when you fancy a tasty treat. Head to the Glass House beside the indoor pool for light bites by day and tapas by night, or enjoy gourmet delights at the grand main restaurant, 47˚. Set across two floors on decks four and five, this dining space boasts a grand double staircase in keeping with the plush theme.

At the outdoor cinema, ‘Movies by Moonlight’ play beside the main pool, or you might prefer to catch one of 11 unique Broadway-style shows in the show lounge. Alternatively, take a seat in the Atrium Bar to watch captivating entertainment unfold, before heading to the contemporary Venue Bar. Here you’ll find even more going on – including dazzling live shows and bands!

The choice of 915 cabins and suites covers all different size parties and budgets. Options range from inside cabins to family suites, right up to five executive suites and even The Royal Suite with a baby grand piano. You can watch movies under a star-lit sky at the ship’s outdoor cinema. Indoors, there are nightly shows in Marella biggest ever Broadway Show Lounge, and pianists and acoustic musicians take to the stage in the atrium – an elegant space that changes colour when the sun goes down. The plush casino, meanwhile, is the place to head for a late-night flutter.

Lounge

Marella Discovery’s lounge is the most spacious and contemporary yet, and it’s the place to be for after-dinner drinks and light entertainment. Live musicians and special guests take to the floor regularly. You can look forward to family game shows, too.

Sky Bar

The most stylish bar onboard also flaunts the best sea views. It’s set at the ship’s highest point on Deck 11. Head here just before sunset for a pre-dinner cocktail, and watch the sky turn from a molten gold colour to dusk-pink.

Broadway Show Lounge

With its plush red seating and 800+ capacity, the show lounge is West End-worthy. Expect nightly performances from the talented show team, with dazzling costumes and high-energy dance numbers. Marella fly top comedy acts over from the UK, too.

Casino and Bar

The stylish casino is open until late, and features roulette, blackjack tables and fruit machines. If you’re a beginner, ask the croupiers about getting some lessons in.

Cocktail and Piano Bar

Order a martini, pull up a chair, and sit back and relax as the resident pianist works the keys.

Outdoor Movie Screen

In a Marella Cruises first, they’re debuting an open-air cinema. It means you can watch movies under the stars.

Atrium Bar

You’ll find this well-stocked bar in the middle of the ship. Grab a seat here for a great view of the entertainment in the atrium.

Broad Street Shops

Indulge in a little retail therapy in the onboard boutiques. They’re open when we’re at sea, and stock a great range of perfume, make-up, clothes and gifts.

Video Arcade

This fun, interactive arcade has gaming machines for adults and children.

Pool Bar

This sociable spot is the place to come for cold drinks in between dips. There’s a packed daytime entertainment programme, which ticks off cooking demos, quizzes and sail-away deck parties.

Spend the day taking it easy: relax by the swimming pool with a drink in your hand, head to the spa for a massage or spend some time in the saunas.

Rock Climbing Wall

Brave the rock climbing wall and get a bird’s-eye view of the ship and surrounding ocean.

Oceans Gym and Spa

Everyone makes a big effort for the weekly formal night, so pop in to the salon for a manicure or hair up-do. Alternatively, spoil yourself in the spa – it’s got a string of treatment cabins where you can indulge in a full body massage or a rejuvenating facial. Enjoy a workout in the fleet’s largest gym, before working up an even bigger sweat in the sauna.

Indoor Pool & Solarium

A brand new feature for Marella Cruises, Marella Discovery’s indoor pool comes with a huge glass canopy roof, and rows of loungers.

Mini Golf

Take the whole family to the minigolf green for an afternoon of fun. It’s got nine holes and widescreen sea views.

Main Pool

An open-air pool for all the family. Loungers are lined up along the water’s edge.

Sports Deck

Right at the top of the ship, this outdoor deck opens during daylight hours and is devoted to sports like basketball, football, and table tennis.

Whirlpools

You’ll find four relaxing whirlpool baths on Deck 9.

Jogging Track

Burn some calories on a run around deck 10.

Marella Cruises have worked on every last detail when it comes to getting the kids onboard. That means family-sized and inter-connecting cabins, buffet lunches featuring favourites like pizza and spaghetti bolognese, and a great mix of activities.

They lay on table tennis and football tournaments, fun quizzes, and early evening shows during their sea days. And when the ship is in port, children up to the age of 12 get discounted rates on some of their exciting shore excursions.

Every ship has a free Kids’ Club, too. So mum and dad can have time together while the little ones fill their days with treasure hunts, face-painting, and stories.

Kids' Club

The accredited staff at the onboard Kids’ Club do a brilliant job keeping youngsters entertained. There’s messy time with arts and crafts, dressing-up, movie nights and pyjama parties. Trips to the bridge to high-five the captain and behind-the-scenes backstage tours also make the line-up. They’ll even take your little ones to breakfast a couple of times a week while you get a lie-in. Groups are split in to 2 or 3, depending on ages and numbers. Tots is for 3 to 5-year-olds and Team is for 6 to 8 years – sometimes these 2 are combined. They’ve also got lots of activities that hit the mark for the 9 to 11 age group, in Tribe. Best of all, the club is free.

Showtime Stage School

Wannabe Harry Styles and budding Lady Gagas will be in their element at the Showtime Stage School. Here, 9 to 16-year-olds can learn the tricks of the trade from the professionals, as the onboard show team puts them through their paces with acting, dancing and singing workshops. At the end of the cruise, there may even be a live performance. Three 90-minute lessons cost £35 per child. Just so you know, though, they only run if there’s enough demand.

Thomson the Dog

Keep your eyes peeled for Thomson the Dog during your family holiday. He’s been known to pop up at the poolside for story time, and he’s rather fond of a photo session or 2.

Family-Friendly Shore Excursions

One of the perks of cruising is visiting lots of new places one after the other. They’ve got a range of shore excursions for the whole family. For little ones, they organise trips to waterparks, aquariums and beaches, plus once-in-a-lifetime experiences like swimming with stingrays and dolphins. If you’re travelling with children aged 10 and over, there’s also the option of 2 wheels. Most of their ships have mountain bikes onboard. At almost every port, you can join an experienced guide and pedal your way around the best sights.

Kid's Dining

Dining doesn’t have to be a formal affair onboard. Their buffet restaurants have a huge choice of dishes for a relaxed family get-together. For children, there are favourites like pasta and fries on the menu, with ice-cream cones for pudding. The afternoon teas – all gooey cakes and freshly baked scones – are a firm favourite, and there are regular barbecue lunches out on deck. Don’t miss our Baked Alaska Parade, either.
