The exciting double-whammy launch of Marella Cruises’ winter 2019 and summer 2020 cruise programmes all in one day has given us a lot to talk about! Along with new ports and new itineraries, there are lots of other things too.

From dress codes to dry docks, this is your rundown of everything you need to know about what’s new with Marella Cruises.

Dress codes cracked

In response to customer feedback, Marella Cruises dress codes will now be exactly the same across every ship in the fleet. A consistent policy will be especially welcome for those lucky cruisers among you who enjoy several cruises a year and get to experience different Marella ships.

The dress code policy is pretty easy to follow. ‘Beachwear’ includes bikinis and swimming trunks for those sea days spent by the pool, while examples of ‘Casual’ dress include tops and shorts or sundresses.

It’s always nice to have the chance to dress up a bit during your cruise, especially on evenings such as the Captain’s Gala. The guidelines for the ‘Smart’ dress policy suggest trousers or smart tailored shorts, a skirt or dress, a shirt or polo shirt and smart shoes. This is where you’ll want to ditch your flip flops or trainers in favour of your fanciest footwear.

Each restaurant has a dress code, which is shown in the welcome letter in your cabin. So you shouldn’t have any trouble choosing between your t-shirt and your tiara. If you’re ever unsure, the customer service desk is always there to offer some friendly advice.

Kids’ clubs to be revamped

In May when Marella Cruises’ summer 2019 cruise programme begins, the kids’ club facilities on all Marella ships will be known as M Club. Already a feature onboard Marella Explorer, M Club will bring the popular M Crew characters to all the other ships in the fleet.

The kids’ club gives the youngest cruisers the chance to enjoy fun activities throughout the day. This includes evening activities such as pizza making and movie nights.

Keep your valuables safe

Cruisers onboard Marella Dream and Marella Celebration can expect a welcome change to the way the safes in cabins are used. The change, taking effect in May 2019, means the safes in every cabin will be available free of charge. This brings the two older ships in-line with the rest of the Marella fleet.

E-cigarettes in smoking areas

The rules about using e-cigarettes onboard Marella ships are changing. Customers have previously been permitted to use e-cigarettes in the casino and the adjoining bar areas. The change means that e-cigarettes will be treated in the same way as tobacco products and can only be used in the designated smoking areas.

Ship News

Marella Discovery

Marella Discovery has been enjoying her own ‘R&R’ after recently going into dry dock for maintenance. She sets sail again on 8th November, when you can expect to see some exciting updates onboard.

Venue will be transformed to become the Squid & Anchor. Inspired by a traditional British pub, this drinking establishment will feature a similar design and layout as the one currently onboard Marella Explorer.

The speciality restaurants on Marella Discovery are getting a refresh too. Surf & Turf, Kora La, Sushi Bar and Bar Eleven will all be getting new carpet throughout. Bar Eleven is also getting a fresh lick of paint with a new colour scheme. And diners in Sushi Bar can enjoy a better view of the chefs preparing their meal when the restaurant gets a rebuild.

The buffet restaurant Islands is also getting a redesign. The counters are being moved to improve the flow through the restaurant. You’ll also notice a few extra additions too, including self-service soda dispensers. Ready for the summer 2019 season, Islands is even getting a dedicated kids’ buffet area.

If you’ve ever found yourself all at sea while looking to charge your phone or tablet onboard Marella Discovery, then the new USB sockets in the Coffee Port will be a very welcome addition. You can enjoy a latte while you update the family back home on your adventures. The same types of sockets are also being installed in the bedside tables in suites and junior suites.

The most important change to cabins onboard Marella Discovery is the refurbishment of the family suites. The refurb will keep them feeling fresh and ready for the next family cruisers in summer 2019.

Smokers onboard will be happy to hear that a new awning is being installed on the outside deck to cover the smoking area and provide better shelter from the weather.

Marella Dream

It’s not just the newer ships in the Marella Cruises family that are getting all the attention—Marella Dream is getting spruced up too. One of the updates will allow you to relax in style in the brand new sun lounge—with hammocks and sunbathing pods sitting on artificial grass.

Like Marella Discovery, the Coffee Port on Marella Dream is getting USB sockets so you can charge your phone while you enjoy a cuppa.

Water dispensers will also be added to all the cabin decks on the ship, with caraffes being provided in all cabins. This is part of an on-going effort to reduce plastic waste across all Marella ships.

The grand suites and suites onboard Marella Dream are getting a refurb too, with new carpets, lighting and USB sockets added.

There’ll also be new carpets in the restaurants, with Medusa Lounge, Tides and Orion Restaurant all getting refreshed with new upholstery on the furniture too.

Marella Celebration

The other ‘more mature’ ship in the fleet is Marella Celebration. She hasn’t been left out of the action where refurbishments are concerned—she’s also getting the brand new relaxation corner, with hammocks and sunbathing pods.

The Coffee Port on Marella Celebration will be powered up with USB charging points, which will also be added to the suites.

The fight against plastic waste has been taken into consideration here too, with water dispensers appearing on cabin decks throughout the ship. Caraffes will be put in all cabins so you can easily fill up whenever you need to.

There’s even a fresh new look coming to Liberties. The bar is getting brand new furniture, carpets and artwork, so Marella Celebration veterans may not even recognise the place. Horizons Bar, the Broadway Show Lounge and Meridian Restaurant are all getting new carpets and re-upholstered furniture too, making it feel like a whole new ship.
