Royal Caribbean has announced that they’ll make a much-awaited return to the US Virgin Islands next month, fulfilling their commitment to the recovery of the region after the devastation caused by recent hurricanes.
Adventure of the Seas® will make her return to St Thomas in the US Virgin Islands on 10th November 2017 – the first ship in the fleet to call into the islands since early September.
How has St Thomas recovered?
Royal Caribbean has been working in partnership with the government of the US Virgin Islands to fully restore Magens Bay, one of St Thomas’s most popular tourist attractions. The grand re-opening of this pristine beach attraction will be on the same day as Adventure of the Seas’ visit to St Thomas, so it’s the perfect way to celebrate.
Power and water have been fully restored on the island and the majority of local businesses – including shops, restaurants, bars and tour operators – are back-up-and-running ready for visitors to enjoy. Adventure of the Seas’ arrival – carrying 3,100 passengers, will give a well-needed boost to the local economy. Hopefully, this will also encourage further cruise ships to return to the region and help get the Caribbean back to all its glory.
Committed to support
Michael Bayley, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean International said “We are very excited to get back home to our friends in St. Thomas. The Caribbean is our family, having cruised there for nearly 50 years, and the long-standing relationships created in all this time are unwavering,” He continued “We are committed to doing everything we can to help and proud to support the restoration of the iconic Magens Bay.”
So where’s next?
Royal Caribbean has also committed to return to San Juan, Puerto Rico and Sint Maarten, after working closely with the islands’ governments to help ensure their return by the end of November.
All scheduled calls to San Juan, Sint Maarten and St Thomas will return to normal by 1st December – including the return of the world’s biggest ships, Oasis of the Seas®, Allure of the Seas®, and Harmony of the Seas® – bringing over 6,000 visitors per week.
Fingers crossed, it’s onwards and upwards for this dreamy destination.
