Over the past couple of weeks we’ve had many exciting reveals from P&O Cruises regarding their new ship Iona – well Princess cruises is now following suit and set to join its UK sister company with the announcement of two new build large generation ships!
Making an environmental impact
Making headway in the world’s attempt to become more environmentally friendly, these two new builds will be the line’s most efficient yet. Duel-fueled primarily by Liquefield Natural Gas, this new power system will cut both air emissions and marine gas oil.
Both 175,000 gross ton vessels are planned to be built at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Italy. Set to house 4,300 passengers, they’ll be the biggest in Princess Cruises fleet! With designs based on a new next-generation platform said to ‘further enhance an already world-class holiday experience’ they’ll certainly be lots to look forward to with both deliveries due late 2023 and spring 2025.
A revolutionary look and feel
Jan Swartz, group president of Princess Cruises and parent company Carnival Australia has said “This revolutionary platform for next-generation, LNG-powered cruise ships will introduce innovative design and leisure experiences driven by the future holiday and lifestyle trends of our guests – further evolving the already best-in-class Princess Cruises experience we deliver today.”
“We look forward to collaborating with Fincantieri to bring our vision for this next-generation premium cruise ship into service.”
Guiseppe Bono, CEO of Fincantieri then followed with a statement saying the company is ready to enter into a new era of the cruise industry – one that will be increasingly aimed at reducing even more of their environmental impact. He said – “We proudly do this with an all-time record project, both in terms of size and technology. We believe that there are no more significant milestones than these to reaffirm our market-leading position.”
