On track to be one of P&O Cruises‘ biggest ships holding 5,200 passengers, Iona puts entertainment at her core. ‘Pleasure Dome’ details have now been revealed showcasing a hub full to the brim with mouth-watering food and drink facilities and a new home for entertainment.
What you can expect
Iona’s most stunning centerpiece is her Grand Atrium, with panoramic sea views stretching three decks high. This leads on to the glass Sky Dome sitting atop of the ship, which houses a ‘hidden’ nightclub, a boutique four-screen cinema and much more to keep you thoroughly entertained.
This new development was designed by the creators of London’s W hotel and the Aqua Shard, both show stoppers in their own right. The Atrium is now set to follow their lead as a key space onboard Iona.
Each level of the Grand Atrium offers a different destination, yet continues its impressive allowance of natural light and beautiful sea views. It’s been thoughtfully designed to transition from an area perfect for your morning coffee through to evening drinks. You can expect this space to be constantly buzzing with life.
Iona’s ‘Secret Spot’
Brand new for P&O Cruises, Sky Dome is an exciting new concept full of contemporary flare. Elegantly designed by award-winning British engineers Eckersley O’Callaghan – the firm behind other glass structures such as London’s famous Embassy Gardens Sky Pool – the Sky Dome instantly adds to Ionas’ breath-taking aesthetic with its full glass roof ,while allowing guests to enjoy fun evenings of dining, laughter and entertainment come rain or shine.
This hub of entertainment is located on decks 16 and 17, and promises to be one of Iona’s star attractions. P&O Cruises senior vice president Paul Ludlow described SkyDome as a ‘magical venue’. This all-weather dome features a giant roof and pool with retractable stage, making it the perfect spot for daytime relaxing, while by night it transforms, offering remarkable aerial performances, deck parties and spectacular shows.
Also home to what is being billed as Iona’s ‘secret spot’, you’ll soon discover the 710 club which boasts the decor and atmosphere of a Covent Garden nightspot. Enjoy cocktails and live music with special performances from guest stars, whom are sure to pop in and make their mark.
New Food and Freedom Dining
The Keel and Cow is also a new and exciting concept for P&O Cruises, with amazing views through the three-storey high glass walls of the Grand Atrium. This restaurant is set to offer gorgeous gastropub dishes, including steaks that can be chosen from a glass-fronted dry aging fridge.
Dining favourites from other P&O ships will also be incorporated onto Iona. With over 30 different venues; including The Glass House wine and food bar, P&O Cruises claims Iona will offer the widest ever selection of places to eat and drink.
Another first for the company sees Iona offering freedom dining in all of its main restaurants – yay! In a move toward making cruise simple, this concept gives more flexibility to passengers who can now choose where and when they sit down to indulge their way through marvelous meals throughout the entire day.
P&O Cruises‘ senior vice president Paul Ludlow has stated that Iona will bring “innovation and choice to guests, while also celebrating the best of P&O Cruises traditions”. Each party cruising on Iona will experience an exciting journey of discovery though an enormous selection of facilities. What more could you possibly want?
Ludlow continued on to say – “We’ve set out to make sure the sea is the star on Iona, and the design of the grand atrium tells you so much about how special she is going to be. Balancing intimate spaces with larger social areas, guests will be wowed by the three-storey high glass walls and the ever changing view they reveal. From the moment they step onto the staircase, I know guests will be swept away by the beautiful design.”
