It’s been a pretty exciting autumn season for the cruise industry. With new ships hitting the water for the first time and some exciting announcements, we really can’t wait for the new 2015 season.  We’ve also been digging out our dancing shoes with the announcement that Holland America will be continuing their “Dancing with the Stars: At Sea” program (we really want to win that Mirrorball Trophy!). Costa Cruises Presents their 15th ship

Costa Diadema Cruise

This month, Costa Cruises welcomed their 15th ship into the fleet with the stunning Costa Diadema. The Diadema was presented by Costa Cruises and Fincantieri ship builders at the Marghera shipyard after a 550 Million EUR investment was made to create the new flagship.

Built in Italy, the project involved 1000 shipyard workers and 2500 subcontractors. With 1862 guest cabins, weighing 132,500 gross tons and at more than 300 metres long, it is one of the largest ships in Costa Cruises fleet.

Costa Diadema set sail from Trieste on the 1st of November for her vernissage cruise. The ship sailed from there to Dubrovnik and then onto Naples before docking in Genoa for her Christening event on November 7th.

The Diadema will leave from Savona on seven-day cruises in the western Mediterranean Sea from November 8th until the end of the summer 2015 season. She will call at Marseille, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Naples and La Spezia every week, making her itinerary pretty exciting.

Quantum hits the sea!

Bionic Bar Quantum of the Seas

Royal Caribbean’s new hi-tech cruise ship, the Quantum of the Seas, took to the sea for her very first trans-Atlantic voyage on the 2nd of November. Sailing to her home port of Cape Liberty, Bayonne, New Jersey, she welcomed guests for the first time.

The ship launches a new class for Royal Caribbean cruises offering new unprecedented features such as the first skydiving experience at sea, mesmerizing  venue the North Star which reveals a 360-degree view of the world from the ship, the largest indoor sports centre and the Bionic Bar which features the world’s first robotic bartenders.

The ship offers guests the best connectivity ever experienced at sea. With boat loads of bandwidth, guests can take advantage of a fully connected sailing with faster Wi-Fi than ever thought imaginable on board, as well as applications that allow you to use devices to check in and track luggage whereabouts – making the whole Quantum experience something truly special.

Holland America continue Dancing with the stars

Dancing with the stars: at sea

Holland America Cruise Line recently announced that their Dancing with the Stars: At Sea program will continue for the 2015/16 season due to its increased popularity and overwhelming success.

The programme, which is entering its third year of collaboration with ABC’s hit show “Dancing with the Stars” (the US version of Strictly Come Dancing), will be featured on all of the premium ships in the Holland America Line fleet. In 2013 and 2014 select theme cruises featured professional dancers Tristan MacManus, Sharna Burgess, Kym Johnson, , Emma Slater, Chelsie Hightower, Lacey Schwimmer, Derek Hough and Mark Ballas. They were also joined by television personality Carson Kressley, singer Joey Fatone, actress Sabrina Bryan and Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson.

Lively guest performances from the professional dancers and their celebrity dance partners can be caught on each theme cruise. The audience will be dazzled by the exciting routines previously featured on the hit TV show as well as new choreographed dances that are said to ‘blow them away’. Guests can also get involved in the dance spirit by taking dance lessons from the ship’s professional dancers and by entering a dance competition primarily for the guests.

A winner from each cruise will be invited to participate in the final competition on the Champions cruise sailing aboard Nieuw Amsterdam on January 10th 2016. Each winner will be awarded a free ocean-view stateroom for two on the Champions Cruise and will compete in the final for the coveted Mirrorball Trophy and title of Holland America Line’s “Dancing with the Stars: At Sea” Champion.
