Stepping onto the ship, the suitcases were labelled with the right cabin number and then they were whisked off to the rooms. Then, it was time for the muster drill, a safety drill that all new passengers must attend. The drill doesn’t last long, all you need to do is pick up your life jacket from your cabin and head to the correct deck, where your lifeboat will be allocated. Don’t worry though, you don’t have to get into your lifeboat, it’s just so you know where it is located in case of an emergency. This is the perfect moment for a great selfie as everyone is outside in their lifejackets!

Hints and Tips

Have a pen handy as you will need to fill out a couple of arrival forms.

Cabins

Safety drill over, it is a good time to explore the bars. The cocktail list is more of a challenge than a menu but the strawberry daiquiris are definitely a must. Cocktail in hand, head up and find a good spot on the deck for the not-to-be-missed sail away party.

After the party most people check out the cabin which are extremely well-equipped for a week at sea, with a hairdryer, a wardrobe with plenty of coat hangers, and a selection of pool towels.

Hints and Tips

Pack an extension cable as most cabins only have one plug socket.

Dining

The Lido Buffet restaurant is the most popular as no dress code was required. The food is amazing and there is an excellent choice. The curries on board are legendary and are highly recommended. However, if you prefer formal dining you can always book into the Compass Rose restaurant and enjoy waiter service. If you’re celebrating a special occasion or want to really up the ante, check out the Sirroco Restaurant, which offers a small intimate setting. There is a cover charge for this restaurant of £19pp, but it is well worth the money for 7 courses.

Afternoon cream tea is one of the ships highlights, served every day between 3.30pm till 5pm.

Hints and Tips

If you ever fancy a midnight snack, you won’t be disappointed. The Lido Restaurant serves up tasty delights late into the night.

entertainment

Things to Do

The ship has two swimming pools where you can dip your toes in, or you can always go for a soak in the whirlpool. There is a fully equipped gym, a salon and spa with a wide range of treatments.

On the evening pack some popcorn and enjoy a movie night or head to one of the ships bars and lounges as the entertainment is fantastic. Head down to the Broadway Show Lounge to be thoroughly entertained, Les Miserables has been running on board and has received a standing ovation most evenings.

Hints and Tips

Don’t miss a night in High Spirits Bar, this is the place to be if you’re looking for some after midnight drinking as the party carries on until the early hours. If you pop outside it can get cold, so we suggest that you cosy up in one of the snuggle blankets provided.

Shops

A duty-free shop is available on-board, cigarettes, alcohol and beauty products at duty-free prices.

Hints and Tips

Watch out for sale days as goods can be reduced by 20% – the perfect excuse to treat yourself.

Excursions

Whether you want to go on an organised tour, take a bike ride or simply explore, make sure you attend the excursion meeting as you’ll find out about all the destinations you are about to visit and what trips are available. It is worth noting that some trips, such as the Turkish Baths had sold out before the ship had sailed so pre-book to avoid disappointment.

Bits and bobs

There is a laundrette and ironing room available.

If you fancy a drink in your cabin, ice machines are located in the corridor. You can treat yourself to 24-hour room services, with snacks and light bite starting from as little as £2.

Hints and Tips

If you prefer to do your own thing, don’t worry. It was so easy to get on and off the ship at your own leisure when at port. As soon as you hit a new destination you will be off the ship within a few minutes, so you have plenty of time to explore.
