Norwegian Breakaway- NY's finest cruise ship

We are really excited to announce the inauguration of Norwegian Breakaway, the brand new 4,000-passenger ship that will cruise weekly from New York City to gorgeous sunny destinations in the Caribbean this year.

The ship has a unique relationship with New York, from its beautiful exterior paintings (done by NY artist Peter Max), slick interior furnishings and Broadway shows to the fact that it’s now the largest cruise ship ever to be based year-round in the city. (In fact, it’s one of the ten largest cruise ships ever built!)

This beautiful floating resort gives guests the opportunity to escape the colder weather and travel in style to the Caribbean – stopping off at Great Stirrup Cay, a private island that offers visitors a chance to luxuriate in the golden sands of the Caribbean. Other destinations on the ship’s Bahamas & Florida route include Nassau, Bahamas and Port Canaveral (Florida).

It’s quintessentially New York – of that there’s no doubt – and the best part about this ship evokes something of the city as well: sheer size, which means guests are spoilt for choice in terms of entertainment, spa, fitness, pampering and dining.

Three decks connecting shows, bars & restaurants

Entertainment on the Breakaway is first-class! There are three live Broadway shows (Rock of Ages heads the all-star line-up), ballroom dancing at Burn the Floor, acrobatics at Cirque Dreams Jungle Fantasy, hilarious comedy shows, high-kicking Rockettes and all the blackjack, craps and poker you like at the Breakaway Casino. All of these can be accessed on the 6th, 7th and 8th floors, which are connected by a beautiful, shimmering chandelier.

28 mouth-watering dining choices

The ship’s resident celebrity chef, Geoffrey Zakarian, brings an extraordinary standard and passion to his seafood restaurant, Ocean Blu, which is a must while you’re on board. The 1,300-foot oceanfront promenade provides a romantic outdoor experience and al fresco restaurants include Cagney’s Steakhouse and La Cucina Italian. Other options are premium raw and sushi bars, a signature French restaurant, garden café, Teppanyaki bar, Brazilian-style steakhouse, Irish bar and grill, noodle bar and many more.

Five multi-storey waterslides = 1,300 feet of fun

The Breakaway’s aqua and sports complex includes no less than five amazing water slides, two swimming pools, four hot tubs and an outdoor bar and grill. For those who want to stretch their legs, there’s a nine-hole miniature golf course, rock climbing wall and even a basketball court! The ship caters for kids between 3 and 12 in the Splash Academy, which includes multiple kids’ activities tailored for specific age groups.

A world of privacy and luxury at sea

For those wanting something extra special, The Haven by Norwegian™ offers personalised service (24-hour butler, priority boarding, exclusive excursions) and private key-card access to the top courtyard, where there’s a pool, sundeck, hot tub, sauna and fitness area. Dining and accommodation, needless to say, are just as luxurious. And for those eager to enjoy a bit of pampering time, be sure not to miss the Mandara Spa (over 50 signature treatments across 22 treatment rooms), the first-ever Salt Room at sea, barber shop, salon and much more.

This incredible ship was christened by New York mayor Michael Bloomberg, and if you’re in any doubt that the Breakaway is 100 per cent NYC – it even has its own hot dog stand! Does it deserve the title of New York’s finest cruise ship? Let us know in the comments.
