Royal Caribbean’s latest addition, Harmony of the Seas will take the crown of world’s largest cruise ship when she launches in April 2016. She joins the Oasis class which already boasts the two biggest passenger ships – Allure of the Seas, Oasis of the Seas. Surpassing her sister ships, Harmony of the seas will be even bigger holding, up to 5,479 guests and over 2,000 dedicated staff – She weighs in at a mega 227,000 tons and spans over 18 decks.
The sheer size of this ship may be a bit daunting for some – however the Royal Caribbean being the innovators that they are, have come up with a solution for this. Harmony of the Seas features Royal Caribbean’s signature neighbourhoods made up of seven individual areas – this helps break up the ship so you don’t feel like you’re on-board a colossal floating resort. The neighbourhoods include – Central Park, Boardwalk, the Royal Promenade, the Pool and Sports Zone, Vitality at Sea Spa and Fitness Centre, Entertainment Place and Youth Zone – Providing an area to keep every member of the family happy.
So what’s new about this ship?
In keeping with Royal Caribbean’s philosophy, Harmony of the Seas includes the revolutionary design that they are renowned for. Harmony of the Seas showcases the first ever multi-story waterslide aboard any ship in their fleet. The waterslide is made up of three individual shoots spanning from deck 18 to deck 15, which is ideal if you want to make an adrenalin-filled entrance to the Pool and Sports Zone down on deck 15.
Dining & Accommodation
Harmony of the Seas will also hold the larger balcony and staterooms than her sister ships in the Oasis class – which include the new Virtual Balcony Staterooms, extra Loft Staterooms, as well as the ever-popular Boardwalk and Central Park Balcony Staterooms. There are also brand new exclusive-access areas for suite guests, like Coastal Kitchen, the new private restaurant specialising in a fusion of Mediterranean and Californian cuisine.
Harmony of the Sea’s Royal Promenade will also boast its very own Bionic Bar, which was first debuted on-board Quantum of the Seas. So you can sit back and relax while your very own robotic bartender blends and mixes your favourite tipple to perfection.
Guests on-board will be able to experience Royal Caribbean’s new brand of Dynamic Dinning, allowing guests more flexibility and choice than ever before. You can now dine at whatever time you like and at any restaurant that takes your fancy. However more traditional guests can still enjoy the classic style of dining, offering two set sitting times with their dining group and favourite waiter. Guests will be spoilt for choice with the range of speciality restaurants on-board, which include – Wonderland, Izumi Hibaci & Sushi and Sabor Modern Mexican Restaurant.
The on-board technology for Harmony of the Seas has seen an overhaul with the introduction of the brand new RFID WOWbands. It provides a revolutionary way of managing your holiday, from paying for a gift, accessing your cabin and to booking excursions, all through the touch of the WOWband. It’s also handy for keeping you organised, as the WOWband can keep track of your schedule through the calendar feature and provide reminders of activities and excursions. The really special feature of the WOWbands is that it allows you to communicate with friends and family back home, through phone and text capabilities. It even helps you navigate the ship, which will be very useful whilst trying to find the next bar. However the most brilliant feature of the WOWbands has to be that it provides guests with access to high-speed internet – an essential of modern day life, those photos aren’t going to Instagram themselves. Guests can take full advantage by streaming live videos, Skyping loved ones back home and chatting on Facebook to their hearts content.
