CruiseDeals’ cruise enthusiast Paula Graves writes an account of sailing in Europe on Carnival Sunshine.
12 hours after leaving my house, after 2 plane journeys and a coach trip we finally arrive on the Sunshine Carnival…….oh my goodness wow…….and the journey begins. After checking in we meet at the Redfrog pub for our briefing. There is a party feeling all over the ship.
Quick change and having a cocktail in the Piano bar. Pina Colada ….yummy. Dinner in the Sunshine dining room, gorgeous 3-course meal plus the best rib eye ever……..finished the night dancing away in the Liquid lounge.
Favourite moments of the day were the experience on a lively fun ship and the cocktail party.
A late night and an early morning later we have arrived in Sicily and after a hearty breakfast in the Lido marketplace we are on our way to Taormina in a local taxi……..what a quaint beautiful place.
Back on the ship and we tuck into a huge handmade pepperoni pizza in the 24-hr pizzeria……yummy.
18.30 we were spruced up ready for our Italian dinner hosted in the Cucina del Capitano. We shared an assortment of starters handmade to our choice and then various pasta dishes to follow, delicious sweets to finish. Italian music and dancers entertained us when we’d finished. Another late night was spent first going to the casino to win a few dollars then going to E.A. sports bar for a few more cheeky ones.
Favourite moments of the day were the hosted meal and experience of a casino.
Fun day at sea….now the real fun begins. After a full English breakfast followed by fruit in the Lido marketplace we chose our spot up on the serenity deck. This is adult-only with cabanas and luxury chaise lounges. We then took part in a range of activities including chess, mini golf, jogged round the sports track and then chilled out in the jacuzzi. The atmosphere was electric and also fun, particularly when we watched a hairy chest competition. Lunch was in the Blueiguana Cantina where you chose your own ingredients for the best burritos ever.
At 19.00 we met at J.J. Asian where they serve a variety of Asian specialties including soups, appetisers, noodles and rich dishes as well as seafood and meat delicacies……… delicious!
We finished the night off in the comedy adult-only club with comedian U.S. Ceejay Jones……..hilarious.
Favourite moments of the day were the hosted dinner and the party day at sea, I can’t explain how fantastic the atmosphere was.
After beautiful handmade omelettes of our choice in the Sunrise restaurant we arrived in Majorca. We had a trip out to the Caves del Drach. These are beautiful, upspoilt caves and a must-see attraction for anyone holidaying in Majorca. Located near the town of Porto Cristo, at the caves there is also an underground lake across which visitors can book a boat trip. On the way back we stopped off at the pearl factory – there were over a thousand pearls and we kindly received a pearl on the way out.
Back on the ship we enjoyed the Carnival’s waterworks including the Carnival twister slide and speedway twister. Then we had a splash in the pool and dried off over a game of ping pong.
And then an evening to remember, my favourite: after having professional photos near the Red Frog rum bar we went to Fahrenheit 555 steakhouse on Mezzaine deck for the best steak I’ve ever had. No less than 5 courses were to follow:
- Chef’s compliments borscht, which is beetroot soup or fish dish
- Warm specialist bread with butter, sour cream and garlic and rosemary oil
- Classic caesar salad
- Broiled fillet mignon 9oz served with baked potatoes and steamed broccoli
- Cheese board and biscuits
- All accompanied with red and white wine……..sooooo full but amazing
We then went to see Chis Cox in the comedy club…hilarious…then to the Havana bar to boogie the night away with our new found friends. Thank you for this experience Carnival it was truly the best.
