With a bunch of exciting announcements revealed from Virgin Voyages recently, we’ve rounded up all you need to know about their debut ship! With a list of amenities like no other and a name to live up to, Virgin Voyages is set to make a real impact in the cruise world.
Virgin Voyages to name first ship Scarlet Lady!
Sir Richard labels his debut ship with the same iconic name given to one of the earliest Virgin Atlantic planes. Reflecting on the brands iconic mermaid image, Scarlet Lady will have her own ‘Scarlet Squad’- there to help recruit and mentor female crew who wish to work in areas which statistically, show low numbers of female staff and appointments to senior management positions.
Tom McAlpin, Virgin Voyages’ chief executive said – “We can do better in onboard recruiting and leadership representation for women,” adding that he wants “all future crew to know that Virgin Voyages will create an onboard environment that’s fair, inclusive and where everyone has an opportunity to reach their full potential.”
Virgin Voyages has also put forward the steps they’re taking to help protect our amazing oceans and the environment.
Tom McAlpin and founder Sir Richard have announced the elimination of single use plastics, with emphasis instead being placed on recyclable and reusable materials across the ship. Aims have also been set to convert all waste onboard into clean re-useable energy. Sir Richard said “Business is a force for good, and can and must be the catalyst for global change.”
McAlpin added,“We believe that in order to fulfill our purpose of creating an ‘Epic Sea Change for All,’ we must make a commitment that is bigger than just eliminating straws. We must make a commitment to building ships and experiences that do everything possible to look after the well-being of our precious oceans. We are delighted with what we’ve achieved so far, and will continue to push ourselves to look for innovative ways to do things that will make a difference.”
Ahead of the game
When asked about competition, Sir Richard predicts that other cruise lines will only copy the cruise line’s achievements within five to six years time. “It takes years to build new ships,” he said. “So I think we will have five to six years then people will start copying us, but by then we will have reinvented what we have.”
Health and well-being to take centre stage
Due to launch in 2020, Scarlet Lady has a total of nine public spaces that centre around the well-being of those onboard. ‘Vitamin Sea’ as it has been aptly named, sees an active program of health, fitness and rejuvenation.
Cruisers have access to The Crow’s Nest, a private sundeck that will host yoga sessions at sunrise and sunset -what could be more peaceful?
The B-Complex houses spinning, yoga and cardio classes, an area designed to surround you with beautiful views of the ocean whilst you workout. An outdoor boxing ring, as well as gymnastics equipment, cabanas and even a sports bar can be found at the Athletic Club, and for all the runners out there, Scarlet Lady will of course have her very own track.
Gym and Tonic, anyone?
That’s not all – there’ll also be the Gym and Tonic bar (see what they did there) and even a well-being pool, which will feature state-of-the-art fitness equipment. And not forgetting Redemption – the ship’s onboard spa- which will house hydrotherapy pools, cold plunge pools, a salt room, mud room and quartz beds. It’s the perfect place for those just wanting to relax.
At night, the spa’s thermal suite transforms to host night-time parties – complete with DJ!
Not targeting to any age range in particular, Sir Richard has said Scarlet Lady is rather for those who find themselves ‘young at heart’. He said “Our ships will be cool, fun and every detail will be thought through.”
Looks amazing right? We already know about two more social areas too – Richard’s Rooftop and The Manor nightclub, which were announced back in May. More reveals are planned for later this year, so make sure to keep an eye out for all things dining and entertainment!
Tropic like its hot!
Scarlet Lady is set to cruise around the Caribbean, with departures from Miami, Florida. Promising blissful weather, beautiful scenery and locations full of character – you’ll fall in love with her itineraries as much as you will her.
Already proud of this Adult-Only 2,700 passenger vessel, Sir Richard has hinted at plans to show her off here in the UK before she sets sail on her first voyage. So don’t worry if the Caribbean isn’t on your travel list just yet – you’ll likely be able to see her somewhere closer to home first!
