Anthem of the Seas

When we received an invitation from Royal Caribbean for a secret press launch, the CruiseDeals team began bubbling with excitement. We knew the theme was music, so we tried to predict what it would be. A new show? An international act performing on the Independence of the Seas? How wrong we all were…

We arrived at the spectacular Heron Tower located in the City and took the glass elevator up to the 29th floor. As we rose up the building, we were momentarily distracted by stunning views of London lit up at night, but the elegant room that we arrived in took our breath away.

Decorated with white curtains, with panoramic views of the city and the music of the majestic Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the venue was amazing. BBC Radio 6 Music DJ Lauren Laverne kicked off proceedings, followed by DJ Stuart Maconie, who introduced the five great music anthems he had picked for the evening. The room then went into silence as The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra took centre stage, and Robbie Williams’ ‘Angels’, The Beatles’ ‘Hey Jude’, Hubert Parry’s ‘Jerusalem’ and the finale and number 1 anthem of the night, U2’s ‘It’s A Beautiful Day’ echoed around the room.

After everyone’s goose bumps went away Adam Goldstein, Royal Caribbean International’s President, was welcomed onto the stage. Finally, we discovered what this spectacular evening was all about.  A brand new ship, named Anthem of the Seas, is due to launch in April 2015 from the UK. She is going to replace Independence of the Seas in Southampton and will sail around the Mediterranean during the summer, moving to the Caribbean for the winter months.

The North Star

As a sister ship to Quantum of the Seas, you can expect all the latest technology and entertainment on board – from the pod ride inspired by the London Eye, the North Star, to the RipCord sky diving experience. Indoors you’ll find the music theme come to life in venues including the Two70 Venue and the Music Hall.

With itineraries and prices announced in early 2014, it’s clear the hype around #Anthem will not go away any time soon. To keep posted on all the latest news and sailings pre-register here,,  and join us on Facebook and Twitter to keep up to date on all the latest Anthem of the Seas news!
