From spicy Asian fusion to home-cooked Italian dishes and steaks fresh from the grill, Royal Caribbean International is one cruise line that puts choice and quality at the top of its at-sea menus. In fact, the latest addition to the fleet, Anthem of the Seas, will have no fewer than 18 different eateries on board when it sets sail next spring! As part of our tribute to the US-Scandinavian cruise line this August, we’ve decided to serve you up five of the finest Royal Caribbean dining establishments and culinary talents to pique your taste buds for your next cruise trip…
Since Jamie Oliver launched his popular restaurant chain in 2008, it was only a matter of time before it started branching out and Royal Caribbean’s Quantum class ships have the exclusive privilege of offering Jamie’s Italian to their guests from autumn 2014. The homely, heartfelt ethos of great Mediterranean cooking and the passion for quality ingredients are sure to be a hit with cruise-goers, as are dishes like ricotta dumplings and juicy porchetta (pork roast).
With expert chef Travis Kamiyama at the helm, Royal Caribbean’s Asian-fusion establishment debuted on the Oasis class and some five years on, it can now also be found on the likes of Brilliance of the Seas, as well as some Vision class ships. Combining a fresh menu of sushi, dim sum and noodle bowls with chic, design-led décor, this is the place to head for creative meals featuring things like eel and snow crab!
Devinly™ Decadence at Solarium Bistro
The Solarium Bistro is available on Oasis of the Seas, as well as Allure of the Seas, the biggest ship in the world which is making its way to the Mediterranean next year! Solarium already has its USP in the bag: a poolside eatery with a healthy-living approach, serving under-500 calorie meals that taste like full-calorie fare. But with The Biggest Loser’s celebrity chef Devin Alexander getting on-board at the new Quantum of the Seas branch of Solarium, every item on the menu looks set to gain extra flavour, from bacon and eggs to meatballs and lasagne. Eat to your heart’s content without worrying about the calories.
Planted in the heart of the Oasis class ‘Central Park’ deck space – a park-style courtyard filled with greenery, shops and dinner venues – 150 Central Park is hosted by Michael Schwartz, an award-winning chef best known for his Miami restaurant Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink. Experience this Floridian influence combined with a penchant for farm-sourced produce in the tasting menu, which features options like roasted farm beets and crabmeat raviolini. 2015’s new vessel Anthem of the Seas will also house Michael’s Genuine® Pub, a feast of hearty plates and craft beer to please anyone missing their local while out on the waves.
For a lively atmosphere as well as authentic Mexican-style eats, we round off with Rita’s Cantina, found on Oasis of the Seas and in the guise of Rita’s Crab Shack on Radiance of the Seas – a more casual option with an Alaskan twist. If you’re craving a fiery quesadilla, a refreshing margarita or some sweet churros for dessert, this is the place to be. On selected nights, catch the fiesta entertainment in the form of dancing, Latino rhythms and spectacularly dressed hosts and hostesses!
