Every month we’ll take a cruise line and look at the history, the fleet and its people to find out what really makes its cruises worthwhile. In this month’s spotlight is Oceania Cruises, who are all about operating luxury cruises that have a cosy feel.

Oceania Cruises took to the waters in 2002, offering their guests a more personalised service on their pristine mid-sized ships. This cruise company prides itself on attention to detail and providing travellers a fine culinary experience at sea, while they traverse the world’s waters to more than 330 ports across the world, stopping at vibrant ports across the Americas, Asia, Europe and the South Pacific. Your journey will always be in the utmost comfort and style, and present outstanding value for money.

The ships

Five different ships sail the seas for the company and each of these has won several awards and accolades, including notable mentions for their dining facilities. The largest of the ships, the elegantly-named Marina, made its cruise debut in 2011, with its sister ship, the equally large and luxurious Riviera, setting sail the following year.

To cruise on an Oceania Cruise ship is to cruise on a special vessel. If you choose the highly luxurious Owner’s Suite, you’ll be staying in a room furnished by Ralph Lauren Home, with complimentary fruit basket and whirlpool spas. And in terms of extras, it doesn’t come much more luxurious than a free iPad to use on your journey! If you go with a Penthouse or Oceania suite you can relax amongst lavish design on your own private veranda, while 24 hour butler service is available across all suites on the Marina.

Dining Oceania-style

Catering is a big part of the Oceania cruise experience. Since the restaurants on board are open seating, you’ll be able to dine wherever you like each night. Sit down to your meal in Polo Grill — although it doesn’t have to be steak, since you can try lobster dishes in this restaurant that recalls the traditional steakhouses of the US. Looking for the gourmet touch? You can indulge with some exquisite Italian cuisine at Toscana or enter the Grand Dining room to enjoy your meal in a sophisticated setting.

It doesn’t have to be all slap-up meals, though. You can also sample a fine English afternoon tea, feasting on finger sandwiches and scones and washing it down with a tasty cup of tea or two.

With Oceania Cruises, the entertainments are a chance to see some of the world’s top celebrities. Justin Timberlake, Alicia Keys, Adele and Michael Bublé are just a few of the big names who have featured on the company’s entertainments list. Away from the shows, you can chill out by the pool, catch up on some reading or emails or just take it easy in one of the several bars on board the ships. You may even try a little wine tasting or take up some art lessons.

Experience some of the most diverse destinations in the world with Oceania Cruises. From the wilds of Alaska to the totem poles of Ketchikan and the gold rush town of Skagway, the sights just keep on coming as you sail on by.

Visit brilliant Brazil and take in the view from the Sugarloaf Mountain in Rio de Janeiro, or stroll down Ocean Drive, the Art Deco district of Miami. There’s the chance to get away from the crowds and discover lesser known European gems, such as Zadar, in Croatia, with its unique Sea Organ that sighs with the movement of the sea or simply marvel at the splendour of the Doge’s Palace, in Venice’s St Mark’s Square.

Of course, this is just a smattering of the experiences and adventures available. Why not take a look at some of the Oceania Cruises itineraties on offer now and see the world from a more luxurious, customised perspective?
