Founded in 1873, the Holland America Line proudly celebrated its 140th anniversary in 2013, and has carried more than 11 million passengers to holiday destinations all over the globe. The line visits all seven continents, and boasts a strong reputation for the finest quality worldwide cruises operating today.
A Brief History of Holland America Line
The Holland America Line was founded as a steamship company providing a connection between the Netherlands and the Americas. The company’s first liner sailed from Rotterdam to New York in October 1872 and it quickly became a large player in the relocation of immigrants to the US from Europe. The line offered its first holiday cruise to customers in 1895.
In 1971, Holland America Line began to concentrate on worldwide cruise holidays, and now belongs to the one of the largest cruise companies in the world. Top itineraries covered by the 15-strong fleet of ships include Antarctica, Grand World Voyages and the Caribbean.
