This month sees some spectacular sporting events hit our screens, from the Tour de France to wonderful Wimbledon. Are you a big fan of Formula 1 and wouldn’t dream of missing the British Grand Prix? Or maybe golf is more your forte? Whatever sport you’re into, you don’t have to miss out on any of the action…

All the big games on the big screen

Did you know 65% of British males won’t go on holiday anywhere that doesn’t show their team’s football games? So if you or your travel companion are worried about missing an important match, game, race or fight when cruising, don’t worry – you’re covered! The majority of cruise lines have everything sorted, whether it’s on the big screen on deck, in the sports bars or on the TV’s in your cabin – you won’t miss a moment! Cunard, Princess Cruises and P&O Cruises even have Sport 24 – a 24-hour sports station showing live games and highlights.

So don’t worry guys, if you’ve you booked a 2018 cruise in June/July you can most definitely watch England win the World Cup!

A match with a view

How does watching the match from a beautiful seaside bar sound, accompanied of course, by a cocktail or drink of your choice? Wherever you’re cruising to, there’s likely to be an array of bars showing live sports – and nothing quite beats slurping back a nice cold drink as you bask in the sunshine and cheer on your favourite team. Plus, there’s likely to be some of your fellow supporters there too, or others who take an interest in the sport – which makes for a fantastic atmosphere! One thing’s for sure, if things don’t go your way – the defeat won’t be as sour when you’re surrounded by out-of-this-world views!

Get amongst it yourself

When it comes to playing your favourite sports, a cruise has you more than covered. From full-sized basketball courts to mini golf courses and even ice rinks, there’ll be no complaining about missing out on your much-loved activities. Golf at sea? Yes that’s right. A selection of modern day cruise liners are home to nine-hole mini golf courses, as well as golf simulators. Table tennis and water volleyball are cruise favourites – but make sure you don’t hit the ball overboard, or you’ll have to go get it back!

Swimming is a sport everyone can take part in – whether you want to practice lengths by yourself or compete in mini swimming galas. If you want to try something new, cruise ships can feature anything from rock climbing walls to surf simulators – or how about some croquet? That’s not to mention all the sports you can get up to in your chosen destination. Beach volley ball or a go on the jetskis, anyone? The possibilities are endless!

Cruise to your favourite sporting events

Several cruise lines host Mediterranean voyages in the late spring that take in the thrills and glamour of the Monaco Grand Prix, with the ships docking during the event in Monte Carlo’s swanky harbour. Celebrity Cruises, Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines and Silversea are just a few, with the Cannes Film festival also showcasing in their itineraries.

How about a transatlantic cruise to New York, catching Andy Murray in action at Flushing Meadows during the US Open? Celebrity Cruises pride themselves on their superb signature event sailings – with two itineraries being especially perfect for tennis fans – a tour of the British Isles and the French or British Open.
