We have put together a guide of best apps to download for your next cruise. Many cruise lines have developed their own apps, to make our lives a little bit easier when it comes to thing like – booking excursions, dining options or even finding your way around the ship. With the rise of smartphones and tablet devices being integrated into our everyday lives – it’s no wonder why cruise companies have followed suit. But of course you need somewhere to go in order to test out your new apps out – why not check out our best selling cruises and see what takes your fancy?

For those of you who don’t know what an App is, here’s a little background information for you…

‘App’ is an abbreviation of the word application and is essentially any form of computer programme. The term ‘app’ is now associated with the software that runs on your smartphone or tablet device, which can be accessed by tapping or clicking on an icon on the home-screen.
Many companies make their software available in app form to make it easier for customers to find and use their services and contain in-built features ranging from GPS, camera functions and online shopping. Apps will take you directly to the company’s website so you don’t have to go searching online every time you log on.

So, what apps are out there?

Royal App

This app is available on both Apple and Android devices and is the ideal tool to help you find your perfect Royal Caribbean cruise. You can browse the latest cruises, as well as a cruise search function to find the right itinerary for you. You can check out detailed deck plans and search all the ports of call. A little bonus – you can even see Allure of the Seas and Oasis of the Seas are in the world, thanks to a live webcam feed.

Royal IQ

Known for being at the forefront of innovation, it’s no surprise that Royal Caribbean have developed a new generation app specifically for their Quantum Class. Royal IQ is designed as an on-board app, intended to make booking shore excursions, managing your Dynamic Dining reservations. Available on iPads, iPhones and Android phones as well as being accessible on-board at freestanding iQ stations around the ship. It includes a nifty feature – Luggage tracking so you can can keep an eye on where your bags are during embarkment.

Celebrity Cruises

Celebrity have created a series of apps to showcase their top destinations, including – Celebrity Alaska, Celebrity Galapagos, Celebrity Asia Pacific, Celebrity The Americas, Celebrity Europe.
Each app features imagery and videos of each destination both on and off the ship and the full list of Celebrity shore excursions. The Cruisetour itineraries and maps help you get a better understanding of each destination and the interactive ship deck plans give you a preview of the fleet. This app also includes cruise ‘must-sees and hidden gems’ curated by editors from Travel + Leisure magazine, and is available to download at the App Store and on Google Play.

Norwegian Iconcierge

This app is designed to ‘unwind, unplug, and stay connected’ as Nowegian put it.
This app keeps you informed about everything that is going on on-board – Norwegian Breakaway, Norwegian Epic, Norwegian Getaway, Norwegian Jewel, Pride Of America, Norwegian Star, or Norwegian Pearl.

You can browse shore excursions, daily activities and general information, such as – Onboard Services, Cruise Reward information, Spa Services, and shopping. As well as making restaurant and entertainment reservations and bookings.
This app extra bonus feature is a messenger/phone capabilities, you can chat  with other guests during your cruise  and make phone calls with family and friends back home – which is great if you loose your network coverage at sea. Available to download from the App Store and Google Play

Disney Cruise Line Navigator App

This app allows you to have complimentary access to the ship’s WiFi network (app use only) which means you can take full advantage of it while on-board. This app is currently available on Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy, Disney Magic and the Disney Wonder. You will receive up-to-date information about everything from – character experiences, deck parties, dining, entertainment, live shows, nightclub and lounges, port of call, spa services, shopping and youth clubs.
You can also see what’s happening every minute of every day and save favourite activities to one convenient list, so you won’t miss out on the action. Like the Norwegian Inconcierge, this app allows you to keep in-touch with your friends and family on-board, which is very useful when travelling with the whole family. Deck plans allow you to explore the ship from bow to stern, deck by deck and is available to download from the App Store and Google Play.

MSC Cruise app

Available on iOS and Android devices MSC Cruise app is packed with easy-to-use functions, tips and information.
You can discover the fleet through photos, live webcams feeds and virtual tours with high-resolution 360° of cabins and public areas – as if you are on-board. This app bonus feature is that you can keep tabs on where all the MSC Cruises ship are, with real-time global positioning.
