Like hotels floating on water, luxury cruise ships tend to have elegant, carpet-lined interiors, well-equipped cabins and surplus things to see and do on board. But compared with booking package holidays on land, are cruises the most affordable way to spend a holiday? Here are some of the most compelling reasons why cruise holidays are great value:
All-inclusive cruises are budget busters
Compare the cost of staying in a similar standard of hotel with the same facilities (gym, spa, children’s clubs, en-suite accommodation etc.), factor in entertainment, service and meals and nine out of ten times cruising comes up trumps. Because cruise holidays cater for a wide range of passengers’ taste, “all-inclusive” really does mean that you get the Hollywood treatment at a cost that’s more affordable than comparable holiday packages.
The kids’ entertainment is tops
Cruises cater for couples, singles, honeymooners, pensioners and families, but there’s one area where many excel and that’s kids programming. If your kids are high energy (and high maintenance!) and enjoy adventure and outdoor activities, booking a cruise holiday is a good move because it’ll give you some “me” time to spend in the spa, at the golf course or maybe just in the sun with a good book! Cruises provide facilities and services for children in age bands starting from toddlers to youths, tweens and teens. This applies to kids menus and shore excursions as well, so you can pick and choose how much you participate.
No request is too big
It’s been our experience that cruise staff go out of their way to make you comfortable. They’re friendly, helpful and really good at what they do, which is ensure that you have a stress-free and fun-packed cruise. There’s such a wide range of experts on cruise lines (some people call them “cities at sea”) that the level of professionalism tends to be incredibly high. From bartenders to shore excursion directors to youth counsellors to entertainers, casino staff and chefs, these are the people who help make your cruise unforgettable.
Make friends on your doorstep
Not just for families or people with young kids, cruises are a great way for singletons and couples to find friends as well (they’re popular for honeymoons too!) Cruise getaways offer the perfect opportunity to establish friendships as many ships host parties early on to break the ice, while chic venues like casinos, clubs and bars are perfect places to socialise.
Visit multiple destinations
One of the biggest advantages of cruising is the ability to sample a large number of destinations in bite-size portions. While the ship is in port you can take a guided tour, explore ancient ruins, go shopping, have a traditional meal, laze on the beach, ride a horse, visit a waterfall – practically anything that catches your eye! Cruise holidays pack a large number of stops into a relatively short time frame – something that’s not easy to do if you’re travelling by land!
What do you think? A cruise is a great opportunity to relax on deck and do very little but it is also packed with a large variety of entertainment, health and beauty venues, sport and fitness areas, restaurants, bars and much more.
