Travelling on one of six ships to over 120 exciting destinations, Marella’s tried and tested shore excursions give you the chance to feel like a local at the cities, beaches and tropical idylls you visit.
Marella Cruises sets sail to regions as diverse as the Fjords, the Caribbean, the Canary Islands and even the Arctic, but what you’ll get in all of these destinations is the Marella devotion to once-in-a-lifetime on-shore experiences. Here’s a rundown of what to expect from Marella shore excursions.
What are shore excursions?
Shore excursions, sometimes known as cruise excursions, are a way of being immersed into the destinations you stop at during your cruise. They consist of tours, activities and organised events that are run by professional guides who aim to give you as much knowledgeable insight into the ports-of-call as possible.
What’s special about Marella excursions?
In keeping with Marella’s 50-year history of friendly, first-class service, all Marella shore excursions come with the ‘Why Book With Us’ guarantee. What this means is the Marella team has picked the best tour suppliers for each area and experiences all tours first-hand, reviewing them so you can be assured of top quality.
Marella organises everything for you, including any changes to excursions. All trips have English-speaking guides and almost all cruises set sail at night, so fewer days are spent at sea and more ashore.
When is it best to book shore excursions?
Most excursions go on sale at least four months before you sail, but places for popular excursions can fill up fast, so we’d advise booking online as soon as you can, particularly for tours with limited spaces. Don’t worry if you change your mind you can amend your bookings online up to three days before you travel, or onboard up to 24 hours before the tour departs.
How much will my Marella shore excursion cost?
Prices vary depending on the length of your excursion and whether refreshments are included too. Typically, half day shore excursions with Marella will cost between £30 to £40 for adults and £20 to £30 for children. However, specialist excursions can cost more, for example, Marella’s Cuban Cabaret Tropicana excursion – full of glitz glamour and complimentary champagne – costs £80.

Insider tips to Marella shore excursions
In order to get the most out of your shore excursions we recommend that you wear flat, comfortable shoes as there’s likely to be plenty of walking. You’ll sometimes visit religious sites as part of tours, in which case you might be asked to cover your legs, arms or hair, but you’ll be informed of any requirements well in advance.
You should take sufficient water with you, which can be purchased by the gangway onboard prior to departure of all excursions. When travelling to warm countries we also recommend taking a sun hat and sun cream with you.
If you’re travelling with children, those between two and 12 will receive a child price and infants under two go free. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
